Every month since the month of Jun this year, MomBlogger has organized various contest with the theme centered around our kids and for this final month, the theme is on Cutest baby smiling.

Here is Timothy(D.O.B: 12th Feb 2007) on his daddy's graduation day. He is all dressed up and looking handsome in his suit. From the way he is smiling in the photo you can tell how proud and happy he is for his daddy.

Not only mummy and daddy but everyone just loves to see Timmy smile. After a bad day at work, coming back home and seeing Timmy smile just changes your mood to the better instantly. This is how contagious Timmy's smile is. With your mood changing for the better, it helps to relieve the stress, one is going thru. This incidently helps to improve your overall health by increasing your body immune system and making you look youthful. At the same time, when Timmy is smiling you just know that he is contented and satisfied with what he is doing or seeing. This really helps to boost your confidence and make you stay positive when taking care or handling kids.

MomBloggersPlanet Cutest Baby in NATURE Contest

Timothy(D.O.B: 12th Feb 2007) just loves being outdoors. Every morning he would just climb onto the bed, and peer longingly into the garden below. Yes, just bringing him out to the garden will put a big smile on his face, what more when daddy & mummy bring Timothy to various outdoor places, you always end up refusing to go home.

This is Timothy at 26mths old, enjoying himself dancing in the garden. It always puzzle daddy & mummy, how you can always find some activity to occupy yourself in the garden, from pulling weeds to plucking flowers(no wonder mummy always find th flower plants turning bald after each trip of yours to the garden)and chasing birds.

Back in July this year, daddy & mummy brought you to visit the Tang family in Scotland. My, my, what great fun you had with the Tang family, when they brought us to Tentsmuir Forestry Reserve for a picnic cum barbeque outing.
Tentsmuir Forest in Fife, Scotland, stands next to Kinshaldy Beach with a view across the Firth of Tay. Covering some 50 square miles, the area was originally moorland before acquisition by the Forestry Commission in the 1920s.
The forest consists mainly of Scots Pine and Corsican Pine, a large part of which is a Nature Reserve (Tentsmuir Point National Nature reserve). Since the forest is adjacent to Kinshaldy Beach, there is a large variety of wildlife. Here can be seen deer, bats, Red Squirrel and in particular Grey Seal. Unusually, however, there are also cattle present as part of conservation management.

This is Timothy posing with the Tang children, Grace and John in Tentsmuir Park and below photo shows him playing mulberry bush with John.

Look, both good friends trying to outdo each other picking wild flowers in the park.

Looking happy having the Tang children to keep him company.

Outdoor activities are good for kids. It helps to keep them in shape.Research shows that childhood obesity has been steadily increasing over the past 30 years. While childhood obesity can be caused by poor eating habits, it can also result from a lack of vigorous physical activity. Bringing children outdoor is one of the methods in encouraging them to be active and thus keeping any obesity related sickness at bay. Besides keeping them fit, outdoor activities can also benefit children in terms of strength, endurance, and coordination. Children are sensory-motor learners and so playing outside is a valuable activity for children because of the many ways it promotes their development. Besides all the health benefits, playing outside stretches children's thinking and knowledge. Children need coordination; they need a chance to practice their basic physical skills. Outdoor play time also allows children to move freely and make noise, a form of self-expression that are often restricted indoors. It also gives them the opportunity to practice their social skills, thus strengthening their friendship bond and interaction with others.

However, a word of caution when bringing kids outdoor is to keep an eye on them and not let them wonder to places faraway from adults. Wondering alone is dangerous and might attract unnecessary attention. We also need to ensure sufficient protection from the sun before bringing them out. The sun rays can be very damaging to young skin.

MomBloggersPlanet Cutest Baby with BOTTLE Contest

Avent milk bottle has always been the best choice for Timothy. Mummy bought for Timothy Avent Natural PES Feeding Bottle which had many positive reviews from her friends. Since introducing Avent milk bottle to Timothy when she stopped breast feeding him at 12mths old, mummy never regretted her choice of milk bottle, and never took a second glance at any other milk bottles in the market.

Avent's patented anti-vacuum skirt valve prevented air from entering the baby's tummy during feeding and developing painful colic. Avent milk bottles have a wide mouth thus making it easy to clean and fill. You don't have to use a special brush to clean the bottle as your hand can reach into the bottle. Moreover the bottle surface is smooth thus preventing accumulation of germs. The wide opening also makes it easier to fill the bottle with formula milk, juice, etc. and at the same time makes it easier for the baby to grasp. Avent bottle and nipple are also interchangeable thus making it flexible and convenient to use. This means you do not have to hunt for a matching nipple or cap just to fit the milk bottle that the baby is using.

This is Timothy(D.O.B: 12th Feb 2007) at 18months old, holding tightly to his Avent milk bottle and drinking honey water from it.

This is Timothy at 2yrs old and still using the same milk bottle when he was 18mths old, sharing some precious moments with his daddy.

To safely feed Timothy from the bottle, mummy & daddy have taken the following steps:
1) Gently, draw the nipple into Timothy's mouth rather than pushing the nipple into the mouth, so that he is able to control when the feed begins.
2) To minimize swallowing of air, bottle is tilted to allow the contents to fill the nipple and the air to rise to the bottom of the bottle.
3) To avoid arm from becoming too tired, arms are switched in between feeding. This also allows the baby to look at different things around the room when switching between arms.
4) Always on the look out for nipple holes that become too large. This is done by overturning the milk bottle and checking out if the content comes in drip or free flow. Large nipple holes will result in baby choking on the content of the milk bottle.
5) Know when to stop feeding. Do not continue to push the baby to finish up the entire content in the bottle.

MomBloggersPlanet Cutest Baby with TOYS Contest

Slide 1
Slide 1Slide 1

Days without toys are no days at all to a child. To a child, toys are as vital as breakfast in the morning. Children put every ounce of energy and concentration into playing with toys, for it is their way of learning about themselves, other people, and the physical world. Watch children play with toys and you will see tremendous growth.

From the start they love action. Babies practice single exploratory actions. They kick their feet and shake their rattles over and over again.

Slide 1Slide 1

This is Timothy(D.O.B: 12th Feb 2007) at 6mths old, playing with his dancing mat and rattler. This interactive dance mat from Fischer Price has 4 instrumental-themed activities, lively beat and dancing lights that encourages physical development by motivating the baby to move to the music while the rattler which we managed to grab from one of the toy shops in Penang stimulates his communication skills. When Timothy explores the rattler by mouth, his lips and tongue are stimulated. Control of the lips and tongue are essential to the development of sound and speech. And when we show him how to grasp the rattler, we are actually helping him to develop eye-to-hand coordination.

Older babies set harder tasks, such as playing with wooden blocks, large soft blocks, crawl through tunnels and stacking cubes.

This is Timothy at 10mths old, playing with the shape sorter which mummy bought for him from Amazon.com. The shape sorter is fun and challenging. By figuring out how to drop each piece into its proper hole, Timothy is learning to categorize and eventually name shapes. At first, he was trying to jam all the pieces into one hole. However, with some gentle guide, he was able to recognize the shapes and was soon sorting like a pro. Daddy & Mummy were both so proud of him when he first got the square thru the hole and could hear both of them shouting out loudly "Bingo!"

Another toy bought from Amazon.com, a toy tunnel. Here is Timothy at 18mths old crawling thru the tunnel. And look who is he with....

Here is Timothy chasing his friend, John in the tunnel. This toy tunnel is very fun to play and has many benefits. It not only develop the child's abdominal & chest muscles but it also encourages social play. Timothy just loves to spend time with his friends in the tunnel. You can just leave the kids in the garden the whole day and you can hear their giggles & laughter while chasing each other in the tunnel.

Toys develops brain as well as brawn power. Naturally curious children figure out increasingly difficult problems. They begin to use and interpret symbols and that is where they learn to fix puzzles. As they grow, their play becomes more imaginative, planned, and varied. They explore objects, arrange them in order, build, and pretend with them. This is the time of make-believe.

Here is Timothy at 18mths, playing with his netball toy, bought from Toysrus. Acting like one of the Chicago Bull players, he managed a slam dunk after several try.

Here is Timothy at 20mths old with his fleet of red Ferraris. This collection of Ferraris which we diligently bought for Timothy each time a new version was on display at the Shell petrol station, promotes physical activity each time he pushes and lines up the Ferraris. This in turn helps to reduce certain diseases such as childhood obesity.

Here is Timothy with his set of Legos at 20mths old. Timothy is a big fan of Legos. He just loves to construct with Legos. What is really wonderful about the fact that children love this toy is that it's a toy which is good for their minds and bodies.Legos unique interlocking system is a great way for kids to learn about construction and design. It also is a great tactile toy which allows children to develop muscles in the fingers and hands. Not only do Legos stimulate creativity and lateral thinking, they also help build dexterity and develop math and pattern skills.

Another of Timothy's favourite is to play 'masak masak'. Here he is at 24mths old with his 'masak masak' play set. He loves to bring out all his make-believe vegetables and cooking ware during his 'masak masak' sessions and would sit for hours on the floor cooking for mummy & daddy to eat. From the 'masak masak sessions, Timothy has gained more knowledge by learning the different types of vegetables and name of the cooking utensils.

Timothy just simply love any jigsaws. Here he is at 26mths old and able to complete a 45pcs jigsaw at one sitting within 20minutes. No parent will argue that jigsaw puzzle is truly educational for kids. Here are the many benefits that Timothy has gained from fixing jigsaw:

  • It improves hand-eye coordination since children will have to fit the jigsaw pieces into the board properly.
  • It develops shape/size recognition and matching ability.
  • It develops logical thinking.
  • It enhances spatial relation skills.
  • It develops pre-reading skills by enhancing the ability of children to recognize shapes.
  • It develops perseverance attitude since children will have to persevere to be able to complete the child jigsaw puzzle.
  • It enhances social skills. Who would not enjoy putting jigsaw pieces together with friends and famiy by the way?

Toys indeed help to turn a child's play into learning and offers lots of possibilities to build on.
